An inside report from the OFW Forum!

The OFW Forum on May 3rd, 2010 provided a fascinating insight into the mysterious world of fashion. The panel of Dolly Jones (Editor of Vogue.com), Frances Card (Managing Director of Frances Card Consultancy), Tony McGee (Photographer), Claire Wilcox (Curator of Fashion & Textiles at the Victoria & Albert Museum) and David Gandy (the UK’s top male model) were well-chosen as they provided a real mixture of experiences and opinions.

The panellists all gave a short talk on their ‘Fashionable Lives’, ranging from Frances Card’s experience as a back-room assistant, to Tony McGee’s decision to make it as a photographer aged 14, to Claire Wilcox’s career indecision, to Dolly Jones’ work experience at Vogue and to David Gandy’s friends entering him secretly into a GMTV modelling competition.

The Q & A session that followed showcased the interest of the audience in finding out more about the fashion world. The panellists were impressed with the breadth and depth of questions from students eager to follow in their footsteps.

The Forum’s organisers, Lindsey Meyers and Alyx Barker, pulled off an interesting, insightful and well-structured event that left the audience inspired and privileged.

The Oxford Union provided a splendid venue for the talk and the pre-drinks. Many thanks to Union Secretary Zara McGlone, who was an admirable host. Our heartfelt thanks must also go to all the speakers, who took some valuable time out of their incredibly busy lives to inspire, educate and entertain the people of Oxford.
