Hats off to Capouche! In the Oxford Fashion Week Concept Show

By Leila Siddiqi

French milliner Emilie Zanon’s label Capouche is one to look out for among the spectacular line up of designers at the upcoming Oxford Fashion Week. Capouche hats are colorful and fun, made with unconventional fabrics and materials. The unique quality of a Capouche hat is that it has the ability to transform itself according to the mood and personality of the owner and can be worn in various different ways. “When I consider designing a hat, I want the result to be extremely multifunctional,” reveals Emilie Zanon, the talent behind all the wonderful creations. A design graduate from La Cambre, Brussels and Duperre, Paris, Emilie now works as millinery within the Ateliier de Paris.

In 2008 Emilie won the “Visa pour Montréal” at the “Grand prix de la Creation de la Ville de Paris” which was a competition organized by the Paris cityhall. The following year she worked within the Creatice Lab of Montreal in Quebec for six months whereby she was introduced to thick furs and rustic leather and learnt from numerous craftsmen such as Tony Alaska and Musi.

Emilie’s new collection is a result of “encounters and observations” where each hat has been influenced and inspired by a particular face, personality or attitude. The running themes in her designs are individuality, fun, comfort and protection. The hat is being used as a key accessory to highlight one’s individualism and unique personality. “The hats may be worn in different ways, thus creating many surprises,” Emilie admits.

In 2010 Emilie is set to mesmerize the fashion crowd at the Oxford Fashion Week with her designs gracing the catwalk at the much awaited Concept Show to be held at Oxford’s prestigious Randolph Hotel. She expects Capouche designs to stir and evoke an element of curiosity and surprise and is looking forward to the event which she views as a wonderful platform to showcase her work in the U.K.

“I would like my creations to be permanently bursting with positive energy. I feel the need to express myself and reveal my world. I would like a life whereby I am surrounded by interesting, inspiring and open minded people; people with a real and very personal sense of ‘fun’. I would like to be open to change and collaboration; be flexible and forward thinking.

“I would love to work or collaborate in various films, fashion, music, etc. The more variety, the better!”Emilie states when asked about her future goals and plans for what is shaping up to be a fabulous career.
To see Capouche designs displayed alongside other fantastic labels, don’t miss the Concept Show at The Randolph Hotel, Oxford on Tuesday, 4th May 2010.
