Sparkling Away: Anoush Waddington at the Oxford Fashion Week Concept Show

By Leila Siddiqi

With numerous highly acclaimed exhibitions in the fashion capitals of London, New York and Paris under her belt to designing head pieces for the five final contestants of prestigious American TV series “America’s Next Top Model” and developing couture jewellery in the international market, Anoush Waddington’s creations stand to symbolize her unique style which highlight extraordinary design combining proportion, line and colour with precious, unprecious and alternate materials. For Anoush the labour of love has lead to an inspiring and challenging journey which began while modelling and drawing for animation studios in London. Thereon she started her own fashion and accessories business in 1995 under the label Metalix and completed a course in Design, Metal work and jewellery from Bucks New University in 2000 with a fascinating collection called “In Tension” which lead to instant recognition and acclaim from a number of industry insiders, both nationally and abroad. She has developed large scale projects as well as jewellery collections and has several commissions of Public Art Works in the South of England to her credit.

“I had the honour of being awarded again this year at the Goldsmiths Craftsmanship and Design Award Ceremony and more specially so having been able to produce a piece strictly under my ideal principles of creation and production – without any aid of technology but my own skills and craftsmanship. This particular piece is among the pieces which will be shown at the Concept Show.

“I should also like to mention my involvement with the Society of Designer Craftsmen which I take pride of being a Fellow Member of, and where I have been acting as a Mentor and Assessor of New Designers,” Anoush reveals.

And where does Anoush get her inspiration from? “From a life time of observation of surrounding sources, trying to think outside the obvious. That makes each piece a challenge on its own and a step forward in the understanding of fluidity of balance, boldness with subtlety, understanding how these contrasting elements affect the wearer and how I can materialise my perception of those elements into light, texture, form, movement and colour that is pleasing to the eye and flattering to the body,” Anoush admits.
Anoush is looking forward to her work being showcased at the Oxford Fashion Week whereby she will have the opportunity to “engage into the thoughts of new possibilities, new trends and possible collaboration within the fashion industry.”

“People can expect a statement, an impact, an expression of my personality which cannot let go of a certain sense of fun and elegance from my collection. Unusual results in orthodox materials,”Anoush tells.
Not one to tire from her craft, Anoush has big plans for the future. “I’d like to continue researching materials and techniques, producing new collections therefore meeting new challenges, re-establish my international presence and house, and hopefully be able to, once again, support new designers.”

Come and be dazzled with Anoush’s exquisite creations at the Concept Show at the Randolph Hotel in Oxford on 4th May 2010.
